THE notorious boulders in New Addington are set to be removed today.
Work by Croydon Council contractors to take the huge rocks away from Central Parade is set to begin at around 9.30am.
They were installed in September 2012 via funding from the Mayor of London but have been a constant bugbear of the estate's residents and have been likened to 'an alien invasion' and 'something out of The Flintstones'.
They were installed to stop illegal parking but will now be replaced with street furniture such as bins and benches.
The cost of the removal of the 22 boulders is estimated to be about £20,000.
The new Labour administration, which holds all four of the estate's spots on the council, pledged to rid New Addington of the boulders when it was elected in May.
