NEIL Warnock wasn't too downbeat about losing narrowly to Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday and believes he had to make wholesale changes following last Sunday's win at Everton.
The likes of Jonny Williams, Adlene Guedioura, Barry Bannan, Brede Hangeland and Zeki Fryers were all give run-outs at Selhurst Park in what turned out to be a five-goal thriller.
"I asked the players to give me everything, I know I changed a complete team and I could get criticised but I felt it was appropriate," said Warnock.
"We worked really hard for two days on how I wanted then to play. That was with a bit of freedom, pace and enthusiasm, and I thought we did that in abundance.
"I have never seen a team put in so much effort as I did at Everton on Sunday and get the rewards, so now we have another tough game against Leicester so the same players couldn't do that again against Newcastle.
"I am glad I changed it because the players who did play showed me what they can do. We have got a decent squad.
"It was a good old-fashioned cup tie. I was determined to have a good go and that's what we want to do this season."
