THE new school on the former general hospital site in London Road is to open almost a week later than expected.
Harris Invictus Academy, a free school linked to the Harris Federation, was due to open on September 4.
The secondary school will be housed in temporary classrooms until its permanent home is finished in 2016.
Parents have now been told that the term will start on September 9 due to a delay in bringing those temporary buildings to Croydon from the Midlands, where they are being made.
Harris said the delay was beyond its control because construction of new schools is managed by the Education Funding Agency.
Invictus is one of three new schools opening in Croydon in September as part of plans to meet unprecedented demand for places.
Its first intake is of 180 pupils who will be taught in buildings on the former home of Croydon General Hospital, which has been empty since 2004.
