CROYDON'S James Dasaolu stormed to gold in the 100m at the European athletics championships tonight (Wednesday).

The 26-year-old started slowly but soon raced through the field, to finish clear of reigning champion, Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre, in a time of 10.06 secs.

Sutton's Henry Aikines-Aryeetey made it a double  celebration for Team GB to bag the bronze medal behind Lemaitre.

Dasaolu, who broke the 10 second barrier, has been beset by injuries during his sprint career and this is his first major international title.

Elsewhere in Zurich, Croydon's Martyn Rooney ran an impressive 45.40 secs to qualify for the 400m final, which will take place on Friday.
