Police in Croydon are attempting to trace a man who tried to collect a child from a junior school in Thornton Heath, but left before anyone could find out who he was.
The incident happened at 12:20pm on Monday (July 21) at Beulah Junior School, in Beulah Road.
The man arrived at school and told staff he was there to collect a child, giving the name of the child in the process.
Teachers spoke to the child, who did not recognise the man, but the man then left before staff could find out who he was.
The school called the police, and enquiries are ongoing to try and find out his identity, as it is thought the child's family do not know who he is.
An image of the man has been released.
Detective Constable Stephen Hall, the investigating officer, said: "This is an unusual incident, as it appears the man knew the child's name, but his family are currently unaware who he was.
"We're extremely keen to establish his identity so that we can get to the bottom of why he was there.
"I would ask anyone who thinks they may recognise this person to get in touch with us."
