COMMUTERS could be in for a long journey home to Croydon this evening after a suspected gas leak in Battersea.
London Fire Brigade tweeted it had put a hazard zone in place near Battersea Park station after a gas cylinder was ruptured on Kirtling Street.
Southern Rail services will be affected until further notice through East Croydon as a result, with delays expected.
There was confusion earlier after police said they were investigating an unexploded Second World War bomb in the grounds of Battersea Power Station.
However, it now appears the source of the disruption is the gas leak.
