CRYSTAL Palace boss Tony Pulis has admitted he "isn't surprised" goalkeeper Julian Speroni hasn't been picked for Argentina ahead of the World Cup.
However, he is "disappointed" for the custodian following an outstanding season in the Premier League.
The 34-year-old has never played for the full Argentina international side, only featuring once for the U20 side in 1999.
The Eagles No.1 was awarded the fans' Player of the Year award last week and had hoped to play on the biggest stage of all.
"He hasn't been called up to Argentina before so for me it wasn't a surprise," Pulis exclusively told the Advertiser.
"I think if he was going to be in that squad, they would have spoken to him or he would have got one opportunity beforehand.
"I don't think they would have picked someone having not been picked at all. Personally, I am not too surprised but I am disappointed for him."
Speroni's contract runs out next month and talks are due to take place between Pulis and the stopper, who turns 35 on Sunday.
"He has had such a wonderful season," Pulis said.
"I think Jules is just concerned about playing at the moment and he's been a wonderful for servant for Palace."
"He had a wonderful season last year, everyone loves him around the club and he's smashing fella, a real, real gentleman."
