FORMER Crystal Palace striker Kevin Phillips has announced his retirement from football.
The 40-year-old topped off a wonderful career by winning the Championship title with Leicester City last week, just 12 months after winning promotion to the Premier League with the Eagles.
Phillips was only at Selhurst Park for a short period last season on loan from Blackpool before going on to score the penalty which sent Palace to the top flight at Wembley in the play-off final against Watford.
After signing a one-year deal with Palace last summer, he played just four games in the Premier League before agreeing to cancel his contract to join the Foxes in Janaury. He went on to score twice in 11 appearances.
For Palace, he played 23 times in all competitions, scoring seven times.
In total, he scored more than 280 goals for nine different clubs, including the Eagles. He was also capped eight times by England.
