A WOMAN has died after being hit by an out-of-control car in Purley.
Police were called just after 4am today (Saturday) to reports of a car that had left the road and collided with two pedestrians in Godstone Road, near the junction with St James Road, Purley.
Police and ambulance crews attended, and paramedics treated a woman believed to be 40.
She was pronounced dead at the scene just before 5am.
The second pedestrian, a man, was taken to a South London hospital for treatment to a shoulder injury.
The car, a red Citreon Saxo, had been travelling towards Purley.
The two males and one female who were in the car have been taken to a South London hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not believed to be serious.
The driver of the car, a man aged 25, has been
arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit will investigate.
Road closures remain in place on Godstone Road between Downs Court Road and the Whyteleafe Hill roundabout.
