A POWER fault has caused traffic lights to fail at the busy junction of Wellesley Road and George Street leading to major disruption.

Eleven bus routes have been diverted around the junction, though trams are still running with the help of signal staff.

Pedestrians and drivers have been warned to take extra care at the junction while some lanes have been closed for safety reasons.

Dana Skelley, from Transport for London said a power fault in the area was to blame for the failure, though "major work" was needed to fix the damage, which could take several days.

She said: "Our engineers are working day and night to repair these signals but it is likely to take several days due to the complexity of this junction.

"We therefore ask everyone to take extra care at this location while we carry out these works and apologise for any disruption caused by this traffic signal failure."

The 64, 75, 166, 194, 198, 264, 403, 410, T33 and X26 bus routes have all been diverted away from the junction.
