SURREY roads are suffering as a result of the light snowfall this morning and gridlock conditions are being reported at 8am.
The M25 is said to be bumper-to-bumper all the way from junction 8 at Reigate Hill to Chertsey. The A3 is seeing drivers queuing virtually all the way from Hindhead to Wisley and the tunnel at Hindhead was closed for a time about 7am.
The A24 between Leatherhead and Epsom is at a crawl, too.
New Road, Chilworth is impassable because of ice and snow so villagers cannot get to the A25 at Shere.
There is only a light dusting of snow in South Croydon where most fell about 2am.
Bursts of heavier snow were reported at 8.10am in Reigate; the snow covering side roads but not main roads.
The Met Office said it did not expect significant falls of snow today.
However, as most people in Surrey know, it only takes a slight snowfall to cause drivers to reduce speed on roads already congested, therefore causing bunch-ups resulting in gridlock conditions.
8.20am UPDATE: Snow getting heavier at Reigate. Queues on M25 between Clacket Lane and Godstone. Queues also on A217 Reigate Hill. Succombs Hill, Whyteleafe closed due to ice and snow and a possible accident nr Wapses Lodge.
