A PURLEY man has been charged with ten counts of indecent assault and indecency on three boys under 16 years old as part of Operation Winthorpe.

David Elan Sansom-Mallett, 68, of St James Road, Purley, Croydon, has been charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a boy under 16-years-old between October 23, 1974, and November 11, 1983.

He has also been charged with three counts of indecency with a child under 14 years old between October 23, 1974, and October 24, 1976.

Operation Winthorpe is an investigation by Metropolitan Police officers into alleged historic sexual abuse at St Paul's School in Barnes, Richmond. Its former pupils include the Chancellor, George Osborne.

A second man has also been charged in connection with the investigation and five more people remain on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Sansom-Mallett will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on February 10.
