BREDE Hangeland wants Crystal Palace to overcome their disappointing start to the new season by coming away from Walsall with a win in the Capital One Cup.
The Eagles make the trip to the West Midlands this evening, and it's a chance to progress away from league matters as a well as boosting morale within the squad.
Hangeland and a number of first team players may be rested ahead of a long trip to Newcastle United on Saturday, but the centre-back wants to take part.
"I always want to play and I am available for selection, so it is down to Keith when he picks the team," he told the Advertiser.
"We need to pick ourselves up. It will be really nice to get a win. It is never easy to play lower league teams, they are always up for the game.
"We need to get our first win as soon as possible and Tuesday is the next chance for that.
"We have to be honest and say we didn't play as well as we can against West Ham on Saturday.
"You can't win games when you concede three goals, and from a defensive point of view that is disappointing.
"We are back on the training ground and it's a case of work, work, work. We need to rectify the set-piece problem as soon as possible.
"As a team we haven't defended well enough, full stop. But the first two goals by West Ham were great strikes."
"It was a bit of a turnaround beforehand as Joe Ledley couldn't start the game.
"I thought the lads who came in worked hard and did a job, so we can't blame out defeat on the players who didn't play."
