A PENSIONER who admitted causing the death of a mother-of-three after she was hit by a car has escaped a jail term.
Shelton Hoilett, 77, struck Charmaine Duncan, 29, while she was on a zebra crossing in Whitehorse Lane, Thornton Heath, on March 19, 2013.
Hoilett, of Selhurst Road, South Norwood, admitted a charge of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving at a Croydon Crown Court this morning (Tuesday) having initially pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing.
However, he was only handed a suspended sentence and walked away from court.
Miss Duncan - who had been on the way to pick up two of her children from school - was dragged underneath the car.
She was taken to the major trauma centre at King's College Hospital, in Denmark Hill, but died on March 22.
