Coulsdon man, 20, charged with attempted murder after Brixton assault

A 20-year-old man from Coulsdon has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an assault in Brixton on Sunday. Ryan Ashby, of Coulsdon Road, was initially arrested on suspicion of GBH. He was charged this evening with attempted murder and is due to appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning. A second man from Tower Hamlets, 22, was arrested on suspicion of GBH and is still in custody at a South London police station. Detectives from Scotland Yard's gang unit, Trident, are appealing for witnesses and information about the assault, which took place in Brixton Road at 11.50pm. A 21-year-old man with serious head injuries was found near McDonald's when officers arrived at the scene. He remains in a critical condition in a South London hospital.
