POLICE have arrested a man who tried to drive through Croydon town centre with £10,000 of copper in the boot and back seat of his car.
Officers stopped the car on Katharine Street at 2.25am yesterday. The car's suspension was reportedly damaged by the weight of the metal.
A police spokeswoman said: "The 24-year-old man, from Essex, was arrested on suspicion of theft and bailed to return to police in September.
"Enquiries are ongoing to determine where the copper was from."
