TWO teenagers who set fire to a derelict building caused the death of a homeless man they didn't know was sleeping inside. A 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were found guilty of the manslaughter of Sylwester Mendzelewski and arson at Croydon Crown Court on Friday (July 25). They set a blaze in the former headquarters of the Croydon Sea Cadets in Davenant Road, Waddon, on June 10 last year. Mr Mendzelewski, 35, was found dead inside the building after the fire was put out. A post mortem revealed he died of smoke inhalation. The pair, who were 14 and 16 respectively at the time of the fire, cannot be named for legal reasons. They are due to be sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on Wednesday (July 30).
