TONY PULIS says he is not overly surprised by Liverpool's challenge for the title this season.
The Crystal Palace boss, speaking at a press conference ahead of his side's clash with the Reds on Monday, says he feels Liverpool have had an advantage in the title race, not playing in Europe this season.
And with the recent investment in the club, he believes their title challenge is not completely unexpected.
"There has been a lot of investment in Liverpool," he said.
"Kenny Dalglish spent good money on Luis Suarez and Jordan Henderson, and they have really blossomed this year.
"Brendan Rodgers has also spent some decent money and the big bonus they have had is not having the cup competitions and Europe to worry about.
"They have been able to concentrate on games week to week and that has certainly helped, without a question of a doubt.
"And with players like Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, it is no surprise really."
However, Pulis was full of praise for the job done by Rodgers at Anfield, adding that he had impressed his identity on the club.
"Brendan has done a smashing job," he said.
"He has put his identity on the club and I always enjoy seeing a manager do that.
"They have an identity and it is nice to see a British manager doing so well."
