FOUR people and a two-year-old child fled a flat after the bed caught fire.
One man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation following the blaze shortly after 1am this morning (Friday December 13).
A firefighter with Woodside's red watch, who attended the scene, said: "Smoke was issuing from the door on the first floor when we arrived.
"We entered via the back with breathing apparatus.
"About twenty percent of the flat is damaged by fire."
The cause of the fire is being investigated, he added.
London Ambulance Service sent an ambulance crew and supervisor from its Hazardous Area Response team to the scene.
A spokesman added: "We treated a man, reported to be in his 30s, for the effects of smoke inhalation and took him to Croydon University hospital."
