A CAR flipped and landed in the middle of the road after a crash in which four parked cars were badly damaged.
One man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following the incident in Coulsdon shortly after 11pm last night.
A firefighter at Purley fire station, who attended the scene in Chipstead Valley Road, said: "The cars hit are quite seriously damaged.
"The car that flipped, a Vauxhall Astra, was on its roof so the roof was flattened.
"And on the driver's side the wheel was completely off.
"We made the area safe and disconnected the batteries."
Firefighters returned to the scene at one o'clock in the morning after the tow team reported possible smoke coming out of the car. It turned out there was no cause for concern.
The man arrested was taken to a south London police station, where he remained this morning.
His involvement in the incident was not immediately clear.
