Carshalton College is undergoing a large construction project to consolidate the construction, engineering and motor vehicle curriculum areas into a single central location.
The new build comes with the desire to bring the department areas together and to modernise the buildings using state of the art sustainable technologies. The new centre will improve the quality and environment of the delivery of the construction and motor vehicle curriculum. The building will be a striking and informal building within which flexible 21st century teaching environments will inspire students and staff.
The centre will be connected to the existing college's main building and will be ideally situated for access, servicing and deliveries.
Derek Spencer, Head of Facilities said "We have spent considerable time planning the new centre and ensuring that every stage of the new build is completed efficiently and with minimal impact on the College until its opening in September 2014. We think we have a unique centre in the making with a lean, mean & green sustainable strategy."
The materials that are being used in the development have been selected for their sustainable characteristics and achieve a degree of architectural quality that is consistent with its setting whilst producing an inspiring design conceived so that the building can act as an advertisement for its function to both staff and students.
Janet Sherborne, Head of College said "We are really excited by the new centre which is now underway and believe the centre will achieve our new build objectives, primarily to provide a positive, energetic and sustainable environment for our students to learn in. For our students learning in such facilities and with our skilled teaching staff we are confident they will be highly regarded by employers."
The centre is expected to be completed in September 2014.
