THIS is how the Red Lion car park site in Brighton Road could look if a supermarket chain gets its way.
Aldi has released this artists' impression of its plans for a supermarket and regional training centre on the site.
The development would have 50 car parking spaces, which would be open as "free short-term parking for the town centre," said Aldi property director Roland Stanley, adding: "We are not like larger supermarkets and do not have in-house bakers, butchers, pharmacy, post office and delicatessens. We sell primarily own-branded products and we do not sell newspapers, cigarettes or lottery cards. This means Aldi customers are more likely to combine their shop with a visit to local shops and services."
The company hopes to submit a planning application this summer, and, if that is approved, to open the store by the end of 2014.
