A PALACE fan has found the girl he "fell in love" with while on a train journey to the Eagles' FA Cup match against Southampton on Saturday.

Angus Mainland, 19, took to Twitter to find a girl he'd met while travelling to the game, after he'd forgotten to get her name or number.

The Advertiser reported earlier today how his friend had promised to get a Crystal Palace tattoo if the tweet got more than 2,000 retweets.

But Angus revealed tonight he had found the mystery girl and thanked the 3,300 people who had retweeted his message.

REVEALED: The London restaurants, pubs, supermarkets, hotels and takeaways with the best and worst hygiene ratings

WELCOME to the 'all you can eat' guide to the best and worst food hygiene scores in London.

The Advertiser has taken an in-depth look at the latest inspection data from the Food Standards Agency (FSA)  to form a comprehensive picture of the cleanliness of the capital's eateries.

Information on some 54,955 inspections in London is stored on the FSA website.

Among the businesses to score 0 in 2014 were Jamies, a bar in central London; 196 restaurants and cafes; a branch of WH Smith in Westminster and Lunchtime UK ltd, a catering company based in Enfield which provides school meals.

Thirty-two schools in London scored less than three, which is considered a fail.

You can use our interactive graphic below to look through every food hygiene score in London.

The data shows Redbridge is London's most hygienic borough with an impressive average of 4.62 out of five. Newham has the lowest average hygiene ratings, with 3.27.

Croydon, which has an average of 3.79, has the most number of zero ratings with 54 while, perhaps unsurprisingly, Westminster has the most five-star ratings, with 1,567, though Southwark, Redbridge and Camden have all topped the 1,000 mark.

A map of every food hygiene rating in London, from zero (dark red) to five (dark green)

Analysis of the data by the Advertiser shows how the biggest names in the food industry are performing when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene.

Marks and Spencer is the most hygienic supermarket in the capital, with its stores earning an average of 4.92 out of five, while the Co-operative and Asda are lagging behind the competition. And, just as Tesco has lost some of its share of the market to Lidl and Aldi, statistics show the discount chains are also out-performing their more established rivals when it comes to cleanliness too.

London's most hygienic restaurant chain is Italian cuisine specialists Zizzi (4.92) though many of the biggest players, including McDonald's (4.85) and Pret a Manger (4.89), scored highly.

The other end of the scale does not make for appetising reading for fans of fried chicken, with Chicken Cottage (2.90) and Dixy Chicken (2.95) performing relatively poorly. In fact, nearly half of the 22 Dixie Chicken branches in London subject to an inspection failed to meet the required standard of three or above.

The table on this page shows data on many other popular chains.

Some 7,979 inspections – one in ten – of the 54,955 takeaways, supermarkets, restaurants and hotels, as well as hospitals, butchers, bakers and schools, inspected in London have been given a 0, 1 or 2 rating.

Inspectors assess using three criteria: how hygienically food is handled, the condition of the building and how it manages itself in order to maintain cleanliness.

Since 2010, some 527 inspections have resulted in a score 0 which means urgent improvements are required. According to the FSA, such businesses are very likely to be performing poorly in all three areas and have a history of serious problems, including a lack of sufficient cleaning and disinfection, and poor management policies.

We looked at hygiene scores for businesses with certain types of food in their names, such as "kebab" or "chicken"

More than one-in-three London businesses featuring "kebab" in their name have failed a hygiene inspection. In fact, those 578 inspected eateries were given an average rating of just 2.9.

In comparison "pizza" traders scored 3.5, "chicken" got an average of 3 and "burger" scored four out of five.

The inspections are undertaken by local councils and the results are uploaded to the FSA website. In total, 23,703 inspections were carried out in London in 2014.

Unlike in Wales, businesses in England are not required to display their scores following inspections.

Staying in the Premier League takes priority over FA Cup, insists Crystal Palace boss

PALACE boss Alan Pardew admits that the FA Cup will take on added significance for his side the longer they stay in the competition.

The Eagles progressed to the last 16 with a 3-2 success at Southampton on Saturday, with Marouane Chamakh netting twice either side of a Yaya Sanogo strike as Palace twice came from behind to win at St Mary's.

And while Pardew says that staying in the Premier League is his number one priority for the season, he says that the FA Cup provides an opportunity for Palace, particularly with favourites Chelsea and Manchester City suffering surprise defeats in the fourth round.

"We need to stay in the division," he said.

"The cup is not high on our priority list, but being down to the last 16 it does become more serious.

"It is exciting for the fans with the draw and they will always look forward to the cup games."

But Pardew says the cup run will not distract his team from the task in hand in the Premier League, with the Eagles currently sitting 12th in the table.

"We are far from safe," he said.

"We are in a relegation dogfight and we really do have to keep doing what we are doing and fighting and scrapping for points.

"We are focused on trying to achieve our aims and we know that if we can stay in the division, we can grow as a team and as a club."

Scott Dann: The Crystal Palace dressing room is buzzing with belief

CRYSTAL Palace star Scott Dann was delighted with Saturday's FA Cup win at Southampton and says manager Alan Pardew has given everyone a lift within the squad.

It was the Eagles fourth straight win in all competitions at St Mary's Stadium, with Marouane Chamakh and Yaya Sanogo coming up with the goods.

And Dann says there is more belief in the camp that they can go even further in the FA Cup, not only due to the win but the number of bigger clubs crashing out.

"It was great for the fans watching, end-to-end and a lot of goals," he said.

"Their goals we weren't happy with but I felt we were more creative in front of goal – and we deserved our goals and to be ahead at half-time.

"The dressing room is buzzing. We showed at Burnley we could come back from two goals down, and then we didn't get off to a great start at Southampton but we stuck in there and didn't let our heads drop.

"We showed what we're capable of. Since the moment the gaffer has come in he has given everyone a lift; the players and the fans.

"We have four wins on the bounce now and that would have been ideal at Southampton if it was a league game but we're through to the next round and you never know what happens if you keep winning in the competition.

"When some of the bigger teams have gone out and you've won, it makes that victory even more important and probably gives you a bit more relief going into the next round.

"In this competition you can't underestimate anyone. The results at the weekend have shown that so you need to perform to the best of your ability."

After Chamakh cancelled out Graziano Pelle's opener on Saturday, Dann unfortunately turned the ball into the back of his own net while attempting to block a cross from Ryan Bertrand.

"I've tried to stop it going across the goal, I've slid in and Wayne (Hennessey) has already shouted as I've already done so," added the centre-back.

"It was just one of those things. Sometimes you make split decisions and another time I might leave it and the keeper picks it up.

"But we never felt sorry for ourselves and the strikers did the business."

LONDON Road is to be rebranded and the public are being asked to vote for their favourite new logo.

The rebranding represents much-needed investment for one of Croydon's most deprived areas.

Thornton Heath-based designers Future of Croydon created the three logo, which will now be put up for a public vote.

Ashley Wyllie, director of Future of Croydon, said: "This is all about creating a lasting impact for London Road and creating an identity that represents and celebrates what's good about the area. "It's something that will bring more people down to enjoy London Road and see it as a destination to visit for the experience, bringing everyone together and increasing the pride people feel about it."

Councillor Toni Letts, cabinet member for economic development, said: "London Road is already changing thanks to the multi-million pound improvement works currently under way."Creating a brand for London Road will enhance this transformation while instilling a sense of pride and good feeling for the residents and businesses in the area."We're also delighted to be using local talent in Future of Croydon."

YouGov poll predicts Labour will gain Croydon Central at the General Election

LABOUR'S Sarah Jones is on target to snatch the Croydon Central seat from Conservative Gavin Barwell.

This is the view of a poll carried out for the London Evening Standard, 100 days before the General Election, which puts Labour 10 points ahead of the Tories in London.

According to the YouGov poll, 42 per cent of Londoners back Ed Miliband's party compared to 32 per cent supporting David Cameron's Conservatives.

Based on this swing, Croydon Central would be among the seats in the capital switching from blue to red, the poll suggests.

Mr Barwell was elected in 2010 with a majority of 2,879.

In better news for the Tories, the poll suggests they could gain the neighbouring Sutton & Cheam seat, currently occupied by Lib Dem Paul Burstow.

Man who bashed head on cupboard door becomes first patient at Croydon University Hospital's new fast-track surgery service

A MAN who hit his head on a cupboard door was the first patient at Croydon University Hospital's new 'fast-track' surgery service.

Patients needing surgery can be seen, treated and sent home within 48 hours through the new service, which was launched last week.

Conditions such as appendicitis or minor head injuries can now be fast-tracked to the new Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) if diagnosed in the hospital's Emergency Department (ED).

Vasili Krylossov, 28, of Tooting, was the first ever patient sent to the SAU on Saturday (January 24), after bashing his head on an open cupboard door.

When the cut from the accident became infected he was referred to the ED by his Urgent Care Centre.

Mr Krylossov said: "I had always heard that Croydon University Hospital was a bit of a scary place, my experience however was quite contrary to this, I received great care.
"After first visiting the Urgent Care Centre on Friday and A+E on Saturday night, because my wound was not getting better, it was recommended that I have surgery on Sunday morning in Croydon's SAU, to treat the infection.
"After having my procedure under general anaesthetic, I was able to go home later that day. I felt well enough to go back to work the day after having surgery, which I believe says a lot about my care."

GPs will also be able to refer patients directly to the SAU from the Spring.

The SAU will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has 18 beds in it.

The idea is to reduce the amount of time patients need to spend in the hospital although only patients deemed well enough post-surgery will be discharged within 48 hours.

Stella Vig, lead consultant for the SAU, said: "I am delighted the Trust has invested in this short stay unit. The SAU will help to alleviate avoidable pressures in the Emergency Department – but more importantly it will shorten the time some patients have to wait for surgery.
"After being triaged in the ED, patients will go up to the Unit for specialist care. This will reduce the amount of time people need to spend in hospital and help us to get you well-enough and home with the right ongoing care and support before you know it."

Man in purple van found with loaded James Bond gun in Thornton Heath is jailed

A MAN found with a loaded James Bond-style gun when stopped by police in Thornton Heath has been jailed for five years.

James George Simpson, 47, of St Lawrence Way, Brixton, was stopped in his van on November 7 in Thornton Heath High Street at approximately 2.25pm.

He was flagged down when officers noticed his distinctive purple-coloured van matched the description of a similar van which had been linked to a number of burglaries in the area.

When asked if he had anything of interest, Simpson confessed he had the firearm in his waistband and police found a loaded Walther PPK handgun - made famous as 007's weapon of choice - on him.

Both he and his male passenger, 55, were arrested at the scene.

Officers then searched Simpson's home address where they found more ammunition.

He was charged the next day with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and two counts of possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life.

He pleaded guilty to the charges on December 17 at Croydon Crown Court and was sentenced last Friday (January 23) to five years' imprisonment at the same court.

The 55-year-old passenger was released without charge after further enquiries.

Acting Detective Sergeant Maria Acworth, from the Met's Trident Gang Crime Command, who investigated the case, said: "Another gun has been taken off the streets and a dangerous criminal will now be behind bars for a long time.

"This result came about from the good work of the local officers that identified Simpson's van as suspicious and Londoners should feel safer knowing that Simpson and his gun are now off the streets."

Queens Park Rangers will only consider selling midfielder Jordan Mutch to Crystal Palace if they can have Fraizer Campbell, according to West London Sport.

Mutch has been linked with a move to the Eagles for the last ten days.

Palace boss Alan Pardew is looking to bring in another striker and could be tempted to ditch Campbell to balance the books up front.

He already has Glenn Murray, Dwight Gayle, Marouane Chamakh and Yaya Sanogo fighting for places, while Shola Ameoni has been linked with a move on a free transfer.

First pictures of baby-faced brothers who stabbed teenagers in shocking shopping centre attack in Croydon

A YEAR ago brothers Mohammed and Abdul Walker, then aged 15 and 14, stabbed two older teenagers in a shocking and unprovoked attack in the Whitgift Centre.

The victims, who were knifed in front of horrified shoppers, were the first of six young men, the youngest of whom was just 13, to be stabbed in Croydon across a ten day period in January.

Mohammed and Abdul, pictured here for the first time, were jailed for five years in December and can be identified because the judge lifted their right to anonymity, a rarity in cases involving defendants of such a young age.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Baxter, speaking to the Advertiser this week, said the sentences serve as warning of the consequences of carrying and using a knife.

He believes their example will support targeted police work which he thinks has prompted a 15 per cent fall in knife-related offences in Croydon, from 526 in 2013 to 446 in 2014. The fall in knife crime is even starker given that serious violent offences in general increased 33 per cent in the last 12 months, as reported by the Advertiser last week.

"It's no longer as attractive to carry a knife as perhaps it was a couple of years ago," he said.

"For example, knife enabled robbery is down 25 per cent in this borough because we've put significant resources into that area. We also have one of the best robbery detection rates in London.

"We're also doing a lot of work with Year 6 and 7 children to educate them about the dangers of carrying knives and the consequences if you are caught doing so.

"That's why I think [the sentences given to the Walker brothers] will have a huge impact.

"Two boys as young as they are being jailed for five years sends a message to their peers and others who are considering being involved in that world."

Mohammed and Abdul, now 16 and 15, were part of a group of five youths who, armed with knives, attacked Glodi Mobwano, then 17, and his 16-year-old friend, outside a sports nutrition shop at around 6pm on January 14. Glodi required treatment for a punctured kidney.

It is not known for certain which members of the group carried out the stabbing. The brothers were convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and violent disorder under joint enterprise, a controversial legal doctrine which allows several people to be charged with the same offence even if their exact role in the crime cannot be determined. It was the prosecution's case that they, along with the other boys, who have not been caught, were "in it together". Neither brother gave evidence during the trial.

Families of defendants convicted under joint enterprise often argue their loved ones have been found guilty by association. Det Chf Insp Baxter believes the power serves as a deterrent to young men and women who find themselves involved in gangs.

"We're educating children that you don't necessarily need to be carrying the knife to be a killer," he said.

"If you are involved in the build-up or the violence itself, or you prevent the victim from fleeing, you may be found to be just as guilty as the person who carried out the attack."

The Walker brothers, who were already known to the police and the courts, lived in New Addington at the time of the attack. They are the most high-profile convictions following the spate of stabbings last January.

Six days after the Whitgift Centre attack, a 12-year-old was stabbed in the leg and hand during a robbery outside Tesco Express in Whitehorse Road, Selhurst. In June a 14-year-old boy from Lambeth pleaded guilty to GBH and was given a Youth Rehabilitation Order. A second boy, aged 13 and also from Lambeth, was given a conditional discharge after pleading guilty to theft of a knife. He was cleared of GBH.

Later that evening an 18-year-old was stabbed during a fight on the junction of Queen's Road and Pawsons Road, Thornton Heath. Six men aged between 18 and 21 arrested in connection with the fight and have since been released without charge.

No one has been arrested for stabbing a 16-year-old in the back in Parsons Mead in West Croydon on January 22. It is understood the victim declined to help the police with their investigation.

Two days later a 21-year-old became the sixth person to be stabbed in less than a fortnight when he was attacked in Woodville Road, Thornton Heath. Two men stood trial in September charged with GBH with intent but were both found not guilty.

While not within the ten day period, a 21-year-old was stabbed during an incident on the junction of Donal Road and Canterbury Road in Broad Green on February 23. Six arrests have been made but the CPS has decided there is not currently enough evidence to secure a conviction.

The victims survived the attacks and, thanks to the rapid work of paramedics, Croydon was spared a return to the summer of 2008 when Croydon was dubbed the knife crime capital of Britain following the death of three teenagers in as many months.

London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended 52 knife injuries in Croydon between January and November 2014, the latest available figures, but injuries – like offences – are beginning to fall with LAS attending 58 in the equivalent period in 2013, 72 in 2012 and 81 in 2011.

Det Chf Insp Baxter says the numbers, including a decrease in gang activity, lead to one important conclusion. "The borough is a much safer place," he said.

Crystal Palace have agreed a deal of approximately £3.45m with Lille for left-back Pape Souare, according to sources in France.

Get French Football say an agreement has been made of 4.6m euros for the Senegal international, who is currently featuring in the African Cup of Nations tournament.

Souare has played in the Europa League this season with Lille and is understood to offer a threat going forward. The 24-year-old also starred at the 2012 Olympic Games.

If the deal is announced, it ends a yearly-long wait for Palace to land a left-back of Premier League quality.

Souare could fly to London to complete a medical should Senegal reach the knockout stages after tonight's crunch clash with Algeria.

A TRANSFER deadline day tradition is to be dropped by Sky Sports, after a spate of incidents during their live broadcasts in the summer.

Reporters will no longer appear live from outside training grounds surrounded by fans, after viewers were subjected to bad language, inappropriate hand signals and, even in one case at Everton, the sight of a reporter being attacked with a sex toy live on air back in August.

At Crystal Palace's training ground in Beckenham, the Sky reporter was forced to abandon his position after a group of fans from the Holmesdale Fanatics staged a highly charged protest, about the channel's 'negative' influence on modern football.

Next Monday (February 2) the Sky reporters will either pre-record their deadline day segments or appear live from inside the training grounds - hopefully, away from rogue sex toys.

Palace fan who launched Twitter appeal after falling for girl on a train says a date may be on the cards

ROMANCE may be on the way for the Crystal Palace fan who took to Twitter to find a girl he "fell in love" with on the train.

Angus Mainland, 19, tweeted rail company Cross Country Trains on Saturday asking for help to find a girl he had taken a selfie with, after he'd forgotten to get her name or number on the way to Palace's 3-2 win against Southampton.

His message has attracted nearly 5,000 retweets and last night he revealed the girl had been found.

Angus today told the Advertiser that the mystery girl, from the Bournemouth area, had taken the internet attention well, and the pair had exchanged numbers.

"I just sent her a message, said I'm assuming you've seen all the stuff that's been going on and asked her if she was okay with it all.

"She found it quite funny, and then I said 'here's my number, let me know if you'd like to go for a drink'.

"She said she would, but nothing's been set in stone yet. There's potential for a drink, but I don't know exactly what's going to happen."

Angus, a lifelong Palace fan who is now in university in Bournemouth, didn't seem to think the online attention would damage his chances.

"I think she found it all quite funny to be honest," he said. "I don't think the attention has damaged my chances, she's not taken it badly at all."

She was found after one of his friends had spotted her name being mentioned on Twitter after his message went viral.

But for another of Angus' friends is set to fare rather worse from the whole affair - after betting the tweet would not get more than 2,000 retweets.

The forfeit for the poor Southampton-supporting lad will be to get a tattoo commemorating Palace goalscorers Yaya Sanogo and Marouane Chamakh.

Angus was adamant the tattooing will go ahead.

"That's definitely happening," he said. "We're looking at getting it done on Saturday after we've played football.

"On his bum he's getting 'I was there when Chamakh and Sanogo scored', and the date of when it happened."

Angus' brief internet fame also yielded a bonus in the form of a message from one of his heros - Eagles' legend Mark Bright.

"To be honest, it was really surprising and I'm still getting loads of my mates phoning me up saying 'you're in this paper', and so on," said Angus.

"I even saw a segment from Australian news that I was on. It's gone really really mad."

Arsenal man and Marouane Chamakh backed to continue firing by Crystal Palace defender

SCOTT Dann believes if Crystal Palace can keep providing the chances up front, Yaya Sanogo will get the goals to keep the club in the Premier League.

The Frenchman was brought in from Arsenal nearly three weeks ago on loan and scored his first goal at St Mary's Stadium in the FA Cup.

"I think he has got better with each game so far - he was good at Burnley but he was better at Southampton, especially in the first half," said Dann.

"He gave us that platform to build off. He and Marouane Chamakh up front caused problems for their defence.

"Whoever comes into the team, we need to make sure we perform like that, but the way the lads played up front was a good thing for us.

"I think Yaya can score in the Premier League. He hasn't played many games at Arsenal and he has shown he's capable of getting into those positions.

"We just need to make sure we keep putting balls into the box like we have been recently and we'll score more."

And reflecting on Chamakh's return to the side from injury, Dann stressed just how important the Moroccan is to Palace.

"Marouane has been a big miss for us," he said.

"He's that link between the midfield and the strikers and he's got real quality. He showed that at Southampton popping up in the right holes.

"If he can continue to play like that from now until the end of the season then we have a great player on our hands."
